Defying Inequality: The Broadway Concert, was a historic, star-studded concert event at the Gershwin Theatre featuring performers from stage & screen - all to fight for Marriage Equality and to benefit Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force. The unprecedented evening was hosted by the Broadway cast of Wicked and included the Broadway debut of Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner Marc Shaiman's Prop 8 - The Musical, as well as a special performance by Oscar-winning composer, Stephen Schwartz. 100% of the profits were donated directly to the fight for civil rights for the gay and lesbian community. On the night of the event, New York City’s Gershwin Theatre, home to Broadway’s ‘Wicked,’ was absolutely mobbed, but not by ‘Wicked’ fans. Instead, the historic Broadway house played host to a cast of nearly 500 people, including some of entertainment’s biggest names, who played to a sellout, standing room only crowd of nearly 2000 people dedicated to the fight for Marriage Equality.
