The romantic story of a young American soldier, a beautiful French girl, and an indomitable European city, An American in Paris follows World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan, who chooses newly-liberated Paris as the place to start a new life after the war and make a name for himself as a painter. But Jerry's life becomes complicated when he meets Lise, a young Parisian shop girl with her own secret - and realizes he is not her only suitor.

Inspired by the 1951 Oscar-winning Vincent Minelli film of the same name starring Gene Kelly, An American in Paris opened at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, followed by a 12-time Tony Award nominated Broadway run at the Palace Theatre, US National Tours, and international productions around the world. An American in Paris won four Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Fred Astaire Awards, and an Actors Equity Association Award. The production aired on PBS Great Performances.

Under the direction of two-time Tony Award® nominee Christopher Wheeldon, and featuring a book by two-time Tony Award® nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas, sets and costumes by six-time Tony® winner BOB CROWLEY, and lighting by four-time Tony® winner NATASHA KATZ, the remarkable cast of singers, actors and dancers bring the magic and romance of Paris and the timeless songs of George and Ira Gershwin into perfect harmony.
